Call of Duty MAG

By Anonymous

When our forefathers wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence, they stated that the U.S. should never interfere in the affairs of other countries. Our nation would stand proudly as an example, and other governments around the world would strip off their old skins and create new democracies without our assistance.

Sadly, we do not live in the founding fathers’ utopia, and within the last hundred years, the U.S. has been involved in several wars. If we were still a new nation with few resources and a small military force, I would agree with the Declaration of Independence’s statement. Our country is not weak, however – it has transformed into one of the world’s superpowers. With our plethora of national resources, the strength of our military, and our immense wealth, it is our duty to help other countries fight for freedom. Neglecting to use the resources with which we are blessed to help countries that are less fortunate would be a terrible mistake.

During World War II, the U.S. naively tried to remain neutral but was attacked by the Japanese. We then declared war and sent troops to Europe and the Pacific. With the help of new supplies, men, and ammunition, the U.S. helped the Allies defeat Hitler in Europe. The Allied forces might have eventually prevailed, but it could have been too late for many more Jews if the United States had not intervened.

There are rules for this call of duty. The U.S. should only help countries that want our help, because even though we may think a country needs us, the citizens may feel differently. For example, the U.S. declared war on Iraq after the terrorist attacks on September 11th, and decided to help the Iraqi people gain more freedom. By now we could have called back the troops, because we have instilled democratic ideas into the people, but still the war continues. It seems as though the Iraqi people do no want us in their country any longer, and we should comply with their wishes. Iraq needs the chance to see whether it can manage without our support.

Though it is the U.S.’s duty to help less fortunate countries gain freedom, our nation needs to think carefully before meddling in others’ affairs. We have a responsibility as a world superpower, but we should use that power only when another country truly needs our help.

I think it is necessary to stay in Iraq because if we leave everything will fall apart and if we decide to go back then we will have to start from scratch again. We need to stay in Iraq until we find Bin Laden, then I would be more confident that we could leave.

We did not declare war on Iraq over the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we declared war on Afghanistan because Al-Quida was there. Al-Quida were the people that carried out 9/11 and they are from Afghanistan. We went to Iraq because Saddam Hussein made false threats to America and Bush decided to take control. We did not go to Iraq just over 9/11, your thinking of Afghanistan.

How can the teens of America think this way but the country do the same thing over and over? I agree 100% with you Krista! It is our right, it is our duty, to protect those who ask us to and those who WE think need or deserve or help. If our ally, Israel, asks us to help protect their borders from Hamas then we should. So long as we have the resources but if Hamas, a terrible terrorist group that feeds on fear and violence, asks for our help, well they don't deserve it so they don't get our support. This is the way the world looks upon us and it is how we need to look upon ourselves.

And Mae-Mae, how dare you, as an American none the less, say that! How did you put it? "...to kill, as that is a soldier's mission..." How dare you be so arrogant and ignorant! A soldier's mission, one of any army, is to serve and protect thier home country and its people. I agree, the Iraq war has gone on long enough but that gives you no leave, none on god's gree earth, to show disrespect to an American soldier!

I think that America needs to stop what they're doing in Iraq and get out of there. Hopefully, the Iraqi soldiers will stop and try to sort this out and make a deal with Obama or the United States. The Iraqi War is going along terribly... get the American Troops out of there.Pr

I hate to break it to you---but the Iraq war is an illegal war, just like Vietnam. It was brought about by nothing but lies of a horrible president. By sending our American troops, our brothers and fathers and sisters and mothers, to Iraq to kill, as that is a soldiers mission, we have not helped their country. We have attacked it. American needs to stop attacking a country simply for their lovely oil--that is not worth dying for.
