If you don't believe in that subconscious self as a writer, then you shouldn't be doing it. ~Ray Bradbury

You sit there and stare with eyes shut tight,
but you ponder your life away at night
wondering at the voices whispering "say!
Isn't it time to go Home to pay
the endless evils away?"

The back-breaking pain, the blood and sweat,
poisoning the mind you know and regret.
Deaf to the faithful sights revealiing,
Blind to the trumpet sounds only appealing
to those kneeling with Him in mind.

But then you seek difference from the roam,
"Jesus, I am ready to go Home!"
Lifted is the peppered sheet that blinded,
Gone is the red-rusty chain that binded
you so simple-minded.

And now you see with eyes open wide,
looking to Jesus to turn the tide
on the battles fought and lost,
so now there is no cost
for He is your guide Home.

The author's comments:
I normally work with free-verse, and working with rhyme (especially AABBB like this is), I can get a little, ah... rusty.

During the time period in which I wrote this, I was very much into the darkness of sin and damnation, so when I look back I am surprised to see an inspiring work that breaks the darkness and sheds light. I'm glad I wrote this.
