I Am From
I am from the well worn road,
From pavement tattered and torn,
From starless nights overhead,
sleepless night beneath them,
I am from the smoke of burnt steak,
That even the dog will not eat,
From bare cupboards,
bare hands,
I am from fast chatter,
From the swift collision of world,
From endless jars of empty promises,
Broken hearts and icy love,
I am from boots,
That keep me warm and strong,
From the desolate heart,
inside me that keeps me moving on.
