is ebony tears falling with my phone

Something is different

and I thought nothing was wrong

until I was told that

nothing is wrong

with me

I have two choices

hang up or fall apart

This was supposed to be fun

and with her it is

with her I felt the lightest

as I held her hand

and could feel her watching

but couldn’t watch back

I knew if I saw her eyes

my own would crystallize

as I thought about leaving

and wished I’d spend the final night

sitting in her bed

like I used to

and how she said she’d never kissed

the moment I thought about it

with my tear-drenched lips

that she didn’t deserve

I was silent

I am sorry

I don’t know me

but I know her

and the way she quickened my heart

as my lungs were recovering

from her cutting my breath

and how she’d ask why I’m staring

It’s only because whenever I saw her

I thought all these things over again

The author's comments:

This piece is no secret; it's for Elena: the only girl to make me question my sexuality. She already read this, but it's something I'm proud of in the fact that I was courageous enough to write it. She knows I miss her a bunch! As for other readers, I hope some people are able to relate or appreciate the personal anecdotes included, because the time frame mostly focuses on my time at Interlochen. If not, I hope they at least like the emotion within this. Je t'aime!
