Looking up at a mirror to check for eye contact

and looking up to make sure they were still the same.

No matter how many times I turned away from myself,

I could never turn back time.

I wanted my old eyes back.

The eyes I once looked through that saw things differently,

the ones that saw things better than they really were.

Those eyes that once sparkled with childlike wonder.

Eyes that saw happiness in a smile,

and beauty in things that were broken.

Eyes that were filled with life,

and burned bright with the color of innocents.

But now, looking into these eyes of mine...

Eyes that have spilled out there pain over and over again,

now look like an empty well with no more water to give.

Eyes that do not question,

and only see the reality of what is placed right in front of them.

Looking into this mirror,

I wish I could change what I now see.
