Expectations
Gotta be taller
Gotta be smaller
Gotta slim down
To earn another dollar
Forget your stigmas
Your stereotypes
If you’re not losing weight
You’re not doing it right
There’s lots of bathrooms
You only need one
To fix your mistake
Undo what you’ve done
You must be tall
You must be thin
Suffering is the only way
You can possibly win
This is our world now
For our sad little girls
With their tiny little bodies
And hair in perfect curls
Gotta be tough
Gotta be strong
If you’re not all these things
You’re doing something wrong
Forget all your problems
Lose all your smarts
You’re not needed for your brain
No one cares about your heart
Just keep lifting weights
It’s all that you can do
When everyone looks better
And is so much more than you
And while you’re at it,
Don’t dream anymore
Leave your hope crawling there
Bleeding out on the floor
This is our world now
For our tough little boys
Playing these silly games
Instead of playing with their toys
Is this what you chose?
Or was it forced on you?
Suffering so much inside
While no one has a clue
Don’t let the hurt show
Keep the tears at bay
So everyone believes your lie
When you tell them you’re okay
This is our world now
Because of judgement and hate
Despising for skin color
Detesting for weight
This is what we wanted
At least, it used to be
But we need to let it go
And let ourselves be free
