Bow to the Queen

A throne for which a king sits upon.

His queen teaches their daughter,

to be proper.

How to sit pretty.

Act polite.

You know like a lady,

But this lady

Paints her nails black.

Never holds back.

Always tells facts.

No tower can hold,

Unafraid to be bold.

Roaring to life,

She takes back the night.

She’s holding the knife

Doesn’t need saving,

Can’t bother waiting.

Over throws the throne,

To make it her own.

Her princess beside her,

Still it doesn’t define her.

Boots laced in someone’s face.

So here’s the the royal tea,

You see

I am me.

I am me

Behind this crystal skin

May be a sin,

Or maybe I am just

Here to show

What I can

Because being in love,

Doesn’t have to be with

a man.

The author's comments:

This poem focuses on how one needs to take the time to discover their self worth but if that means their love interest or interests are not quite traditional. Then it is okay because you can love whoever you love as long as you love yourself too.
