Even The Dead Experience Heartache
She wails, but the wind carries her voice away.
She speaks, but not a sound is heard.
She goes around leaving her mark in all her favourite places,
Hoping she will be remembered.
She cries to the trees.
She cries to the wind.
She cries to the sea as the waves crash around her.
She cries to the sand as she sifts through the grains in her palms,
"Remember me!"
She sees people dressed in vibrant colours,
What appears to be a carnival.
These people are laughing,
But there are tears streaming down their faces.
She sees the pain in their eyes.
She sees the fear in their expressions.
She sees the longing for brighter days,
And she wonders what could have gone wrong.
She sees her sister,
Standing away from the crowd.
She doesn't smile or laugh,
She doesn't try to pretend the pain doesn't exist.
Her sister stands by an epitaph.
She wonder whose,
And then she reads:
"In loving memory of a girl,
Who lived through smiles,
Who wanted them to celebrate her life,
And not mourn her death."
She runs to her sister as she feels her crash to the ground,
She tries to console her,
But her cries get louder,
She tries to put her arms around her,
But she slips through her grasp,
As if she were a ghost.
