Imagine being black.

Stereotypes everywhere,

Feeling like you’re always under attack.

Everytime you get into the car,

Your heart fills with fear

Hoping you don't see those blue and red lights

Flash in your mirror.

Going into a store,

Looking for an outfit.

Feeling eyes staring at you from across the room.

Wondering why they must always assume.

Imagine being black.

Judged no matter the shade of the spectrum.

Opportunities being blocked,

very hard for us to get them.

But what do you expect from someone who isn't black,

Who obviously lacks,

Knowledge and experience.

But how are we being judged for something that YOU lack?

And being told that you overreact,

To all of the injustice,

That the world compacts.

It’s crazy, that after all of this,

I still wouldn’t change the color of my skin,

Even if I had a choice.

I remain strong,

And make sure that they hear my voice.

Imagine being black.

But you’re not black,

So how could you possibly imagine that?
