It’s not a matter of if I can, but who’s going to stop me — Ayn Rand

You vowed to protect me

But in the end, you hurt me the most

I’m falling apart

Seeing them walk out

Tears streaming down their faces

Unsure of what’s going on

Heart pounding, blood racing

Seeing lips move, but not hearing words

I’m falling apart

Wiping away tears as they roll down my face

You promised to never make me cry

But now I can’t seem to stop

You took my heart with you

I’m falling apart

And I can’t seem to pick up the pieces

I walk into the church, wiping tears away

Everyone is there

Including you

But I can’t bring myself to look at you

Scared it will break me further

I’m falling apart

Crying as you are escorted out

Wanting to stand together as we leave

But this time

You leave in a coffin

Leaving me to fall apart by myself

This piece was written about my grandma who died 6 years ago on this Thanksgiving. I wrote this to honor her memory. I hope you enjoy this poem as much as I did.
