More than 100 years ago, the women of our nation

fought for the chance to vote.

We went from founding fathers to feminists

From wives to women

We weren’t afraid

because we had nothing to lose

Almost 50 years ago, abortions were legalized in this country 

We gained hope in our hearts, we found a little bit of acceptance in our abortion rights 

And on June 24th, 2022 an important privilege was taken away.

Our bodies aren’t ours anymore.

They belong to the government.

Our rights have drifted away, leaving us with regret, 

We have risen to the stereotypical norms of gender in this world 

We have survived the hate

We are waiting for the love

We are waiting for the love to tell us

that 

hairy legs

rolls in our belly, 

cellulite in our thighs

big boobs and flat chests

smile lines and wrinkles

muscly shoulders and calves

open mouthed smiles and bony wrists

tattoos and piercings all over our body

everything

we are waiting for the love to tell us that it is okay to love ourselves

that these our our bodies

that it is our choice

women have marched in the nation’s capital, and

flaunted their beautiful selves all over the media

women have succumbed to the gender norms, and body norms, and workplace norms 

we have told little girls that they can’t be the warriors, that they have to be the princesses

and after all this,

you can’t stop

you can’t 

show us a little love

you can’t 

show us that we are enough.
