Hidden Pleasure

I am the song you listened to for the first time in years,

your body flowing to every beat just like the first day.

You are the sudden sunny day in London after weeks of rainstorms,

shining in all your glory over the dew-stained land.

I am the comfort movie you watched during the darkest times of your life,

knowing that no matter the discourse, you’ll always find solace in me.

You are the favorite childhood book that I haven’t opened in years,

sending overwhelming, painful waves of nostalgia as I reminisce about how happy I once was.

I am the perfume from your high school years,

the hints of cherry blossom and rose dragging you back to freshman year.

You are the story that I finished years ago,

proof of my worth in a world where it means everything.

I am your soulmate bound to you by red string,

and you are out with lanterns looking for the other end.

You are half of my soul, and mine is wandering the land to find it,

bound to eternity on earth for loving you too hard.

No matter where,

no matter how I look for you,

you never came to me,

so I must look for you.

Or have I found you,

yet not looked deep enough?

I am your hidden pleasure,

and you are mine.

Oh, how we both wish we could’ve seen each other at first sight,

but, my dear, remember, it is not a matter of where we look or how we look,

it is a matter of how deep we look

I want to know you like I know pain,

like the back of my hand.

I want us to feel like our hidden pleasures,

the greatest kind yet the hardest to find,

yet finding you would be worth it, despite the long journey,

because you, my dear, are the greatest.
