Its Been A Year
It's been a year,
I am not sure how,
But it has,
I don't want to accept it.
A year ago from today,
I was crying like crazy,
And I still am,
People say time heals wounds,
But my heart is still shattered,
Since the day you left,
I still visit your favorite tree,
You have a brother now,
And I still have your very last bowl of food.
A year ago from today,
I was in the shed crying for hours,
Holding your toys,
For it was the only thing I had left of you,
The toy I wasn't able to give you,
It now stays in my room on my shelf.
A year ago today,
I walked several miles,
Calling,
And looking for you.
A year ago today,
Is when you left us.

I lost apart of my family a year ago today; on November 29th. My cat, Minka was my best buddy. Sometimes I wish I could go back and change some things. If I could've kept you inside the night that storm rushed through, you may just still be here with us. But there is not doubt in my mind that you didn't send the cat we have now. He acts almost exactly like you. This poem helped me put my feelings into words.
