A simple friendship
Meet me on Main lawn
We had agreed early on
Before the pouring rain
And the oceans of mud
The squeaking of rain boots
Was a familiar sound
Not a day without
The dry comfort on our feet
We met at the designated time
Under the overhang
Of the office
Safety pinning string to our sweatpants
I taught her how to make magic
Just by using string and fingers
Twirling a rainbow together
Pulling the knots tight
Our heads bent in instruction
Our smiles drying up the rain
The bracelets meaning more
Than a simple friendship
