The Rain
As a seed, I rest in the innocent darkness
Of the earthen cradle to which
I have become accustomed.
But the grace of your moist lips
Gently tapping on my pod
Carries me out into blazing daylight.
The harshness of the cruel sun
Is dampened by your moistness.
The outside world overloads my senses
But you stop me from drying up, and allow
Me to stretch towards the sky.
You allow me to sprout petals
And unfurl into an array of colors,
And you sacrifice part of your Being,
Simply to enrich mine.
I blossom into a flower
Only after you dampen not only
My stem, but the
Burning,
Stinging
Heat of the world around me.
I grow farther upwards
Then fall back into my earthen shell
As the light of my world
Is dimmed until,
Once again,
I do not see at all.
