Miniature fingers clasp my hand,
Now united, they tighten as I pull away.
Unruly tufts of hair tickle my lips with each kiss as
You smile – dimpled cheeks, twinkling eyes, bubbling laugh.
Enamored with your gentle perfection, I admire – content.

Darkened lashes flutter closed,
All sparkle veiled as you lie peaceful in my arms.
Your naïve beauty enhanced by the growing shadows,
I sit in quiescent contemplation whilst you stir and
Suck incessantly on your thumb, comfort in this world’s enormity.

Nestling deep in my embrace, you murmur;
Inaudible sounds form on your lips as you dream.
I hum tunelessly in accompaniment, a forgotten melody to reconcile
Your cries while your fingers curl in time to the music.
I listen, your heartbeat like a butterfly beating its wings. I rest – content.

I have to agree with Lydia. I really like the aspect of it being about a child. You really protrayed your emotions well.

Beautiful prose, very calming and serene. I love the repetition of the "content" line. It ties the piece together and connects you and the baby. Great images and just really lovely.
