This Animal

Wild. Free.
High spirits beyond control.
Run back to the unknown.
Racing the wind
as if there were no tomorrow.
Not willing to trust,
no need to trust.
All the time in the world,
unfolding slowly.
Only, not afraid to die.
As I watch this creature,
I think of how
it could be
to step inside this creature's body
so I could be free, for once.
Drifting off into the land of dreams
I still think
again and again
of how it would be
to let this animal be myself.
