Sirens are wailing,
Chasing towards what’s already happened.
Lives already ruined,
Because someone couldn’t stop.

“Three car pileup”
The text message says.
“Someone killed”
The receiver’s heart stops.

Traffic’s backed up;
Roads are being closed.
Lives are ended,
Hearts seizing up.

“Sorry ma’am, your son,”
The police officer starts.
“He was hit from behind,
Slammed into the car in front.
The airbags didn’t deploy.
He’s dead.”

Through the mother’s tears,
The sister’s sobs,
The father’s anger,
The girlfriend, the driver who caused the accident, questions.
