The homeless man
Awaits the kind, frail girl
Who always wears the same
Button- down plaid
Dress.
She gives him a few dollars,
Says “Good morning!”
Coffee in hand, little does she know—
She has made his day.
He sits on the same bench,
Near the newsstand,
West 25th street.
People pass,
Sun rises, lowers.
Homeless man goes to the
Corner store
Pack of cigarettes—$5,
Energy bar plus coke—$4.
Cigarettes.
Goes back to the bench,
Begins the pack,
Plaid Girl walks by.
Hands him a dollar,
Wishes him a “good night.”
Homeless man pulls
Musty hood over
Head,
Lies down to rest.
