How Long Can You Hold Your Breath?
Can you make it to the end of the tunnel?
I bet I can
But that’s why I am here, I couldn’t.
This tunnel is long, very long
traveling into the voids of eternity.
The darkness blinds me…
I said to my sister that I could make it.
She is a chicken, lost in black;
She turns around. I should have followed.
No motivation, no catalyst
I’ve been in many tunnels
I was once lost in one too.
I don’t like them, but it’s the short tunnels
you don't notice anymore.
I feel a rope pulling me backwards,
But when I reach for it I feel nothing,
Its not there
The cold, wet tendrils of my hair
Release water droplets
That travel down my back like icy finger trails.
It is dry, but I am still soaking.
My internal clock broke what could have been
Seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years
It’s been so long
I see the light, it is a beacon.
To what? I am not sure.
The size of a pencil point
It takes a lifetime before that point
becomes a penny.
A few more lifetimes, a basketball
An eternity, a hot air balloon
And then I am here.
The light does not flood in.
My sister is not with me
I do not think she ever came. Good.
She isn’t looking for the light, not yet
She needs time, she was always obstinate.
I take that step into the light
That faint beeping of my heart stops, and
an echo of my name fades into memories,
As I am forever gone.
