It Was The Rain That Woke Her
It was the rain that woke her,
 The rushing of the wind
The wet smell through the window
 The snapping of the curtains.

It was the rain that woke her
To a loud and tangled bed,
The passions of the night before
 Still dancing in her head.

It was the rain that woke her
To a cold and empty note.
All she thought they had -
She cried at what he wrote.

He said he couldn't love her,
 Said he had to go,
That it was better he end it now
 Before their love had grown.

It was the rain that woke her
She'd thought fate had paired them.
But only the briefest tangling of lives
 Before reality ensnared them.

She closed her eayes against it,
 Tried to recapture the ignorant dream;
 Tears dripped to the paper
 As she relived the memories

 All she thought they had,
 Before the rain awoke her.
