It is a relief
to forget about reality
and be someone else
just for a little while
someone who's story
was told a hundred years
before the oldest person you knows
great grandmother
was born
bright white lights beating down on you
to perform
give someone else the chance
to sit back and relax
while you sing loud, belt the lines
the words
the speeches
of someone you're not
for once
it's a short escape
from life.
