A new mother smiles
at the baby in her arms,
enjoying the warmth of
loving someone.

A homeless child wanders
on the streets, looking for
the crumbs of someone’s
food in garbage cans.

A restaurant owner wonders
what he should put on the
menu for breakfast, lunch,
dinner, and dessert.

A recent high school graduate
looks through college brochures
for another place to learn
enough to get a job.

A 93 year-old woman stares
out the window, waiting to
pick the right moment to
leave the earth.

An environmentalist picks up
trash on the side of a highway,
yelling at people who throw
litter out the window.

A photographer adjusts his
camera, trying to focus in on
one small thing in the
entire universe.

Seven nobodies do one small
thing that hurts nobody, but
without them, we wouldn’t
have the day we have.

The author's comments:
There are so many people that seem to do nothing for the world, but what if there were no nobodies?
