NYC Heartbreak
In the rain
Safe underneath the umbrella
As we talk
Huddled together for warmth
Hands intertwined
He chuckles then leans down
Enveloping me in his scent as he did many times before
But now to shove me away
Leaving me under an alcove alone
As he strides away
The rain bridges the gap between us
One that had slowly expanded over the months
Thunder crackles as other hurry past
And I feel my heart falling down the NYC gutter
To be eaten by albino crocodiles and mutated rats
Jerk, heartless jerk, fu ----
The screech of the taxis cut me off
I step out to feel the rain intermingle with my tears
So I can lie to myself that nothing had ever happened
Between us
