My morning addictions
To cure last night’s hangover
Coffee and cigarettes
Hearty swigs of expresso
Better brew another pot
As I swallow my pain
Hit me again and light me up
Exhale and blow away my pain
Forget yesterday
Yellow stained teeth
Tattooed over pearly whites
Can not be erased
Bitter yet sweet taste
Lingers inside my cotton mouth
Drying out my blackened throat
Shriveled lungs shield
My body’s most obsolete organ
A deadbeat cavity
Last night’s pain masked
By artificial substances
Coffee and cigarettes
