Canvas
You chose your canvas
 Now let me choose mine

Let me live through my own mistakes
 Have my own goals

Stop telling me what I should be
Or what classes I should have taken

 Because to be honest
You didn't make the best choices

 Didn't have the best grades
 or attitude either

And in some ways I guess I take after you
But, Dad you were not there for me enough

And missed opportunities is time lost
You can not make up for the things I missed

You can not forget that I'm older and I know
 I know you past struggles

Because Dad, I'm happy where I am now
And you can't take that from me

Stop trying to have me do the things you missed
We are two alike but also so different

 You chose your canvas
 Now let me choose mine
