What would it take
For you to listen to me?
An extravagant gift
To show off to everyone?
One that you couldn't help but repay
Or if I hear all of your troubles?
Because you won't give an ear
Unless I give my own
What if I beg, plead, cry?
Until you haven't a choice
But to give in
Would it take a lifetime
My lifetime?
To have you standing by my grave
Wondering what could have been different
What if it took nothing
For you to listen to me?
What if you were kind enough
To just give your time, because
You know that sometimes
All I can give are my troubles

The author's comments:
Sometimes, all we really need is an ear that will listen, and a mouth that won't speak.
