The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. ~Mark Twain

You marched off to battle
In your uniform of blue and gold
I watched you go
Praying for your return
Comforting my tears with nightmares
I waited for my soldier to come home
The war went on
Days turned to weeks
Weeks turned to months
Yet still I waited for you
I love you still
You have yet to return
I watch for you
Praying to see your face
But it was not to be
Yesterday, I got a letter
My love was gone
They say you died a hero's death
I tried to go on
Still I sit
Waiting for a love
That is still gone.

I'm not certain where it came from. But it came to me. I think, I got it from hearing about the stories of relatives.
