When I Miss You
When I miss you
The stars don’t shine
And the birds are encaged in shrapnel.
When I miss you
Every little note is flat,
Every word is meaningless and floating.
When I miss you
I can’t breathe, can’t speak,
Can’t even move.
When I miss you
I am not me,
But somebody else,
Someone slow-witted and mild.
When I miss you
I am morbidly ill
I’m an addict in need of a fix
And all my plights are sentenced to failure.
You are the part of me that is soft,
Kind and passionate and splendiferous.
And when I miss you
I am blank
Lost
Lifeless
Alone.
