The Race
They look, they laugh
They stare, they judge.
I have been too strong to let this happen.
A look of disgust from a family member
who won’t even look me in the eye.
A word that cuts deep into my soul.
Even now it still isn’t okay.
I want to follow my soul…
Not the color of my skin..
Sadly they expect me to.
I don’t want to.
Life isn’t always that easy.
A decision that cannot be made by the look in someone’s eye.
A decision that cannot be made by the way someone walks.
A decision that cannot be made by the careful tone in their voice.
A decision that cannot be made by the color of someone’s skin.
A heart that beats too steadily to be broken.
A heart that has turned black from all the hate.
A heart that lives in a body of someone who knows life is too hard.
A heart that knows no limits in love.
A heart that goes on stronger with a purpose.
