Woman of the Sea
The moon controls the ocean tide,
a pale sensual face
calling waves to rise and swell,
then fall and break against the shore.
Water stretches toward the sky,
a goddess reaching for her god
with grasping seaweed fingers
as she warbles haunting mantras.
Her supple canvas a masterpiece
that spans across the globe,
but cannot bridge the chasm
between two lonesome worlds.
Their tormented love impels
her gown to ripple with spent tears
as she flails forward head-first
– rivulets of azure spiral.
She struggles for purchase,
only to fold, collapse,
plunge into black depths
with a final shuddering breath.
