The Earth Child
She sits cross legged
where the sun flowers grow
because the light brings out
the yellow joys of summer
In her hair she wears daisies
and feels the earth
between her toes
as she walks through the warm green grass
and whispers to the flowers
reassuring them that they are as
beautiful as any other
She bathes in pools
of mountain tears
that spill from the secrets
hidden within the ground
She embraces the rain
on her bare skin
as they seep
deep into her core
healing
the cuts and bruises
that she picked up
while chasing the wind
She's there for the clouds
when they weep
for she
is the only one
who doesn't run and hide
because she knows
that when the land falls grey
there are beautiful things to come
And in the night
planets orbit her mind
with wide eyes fixed on the moon
she creates pictures
on the freckled skin
of the night sky
She breathes in the stars
and keeps them within
so that when they fade
they will be part of the Earth
until she too will fade
into the ground that she once walked upon
and felt the earth between her toes
