"All you have to do is write one true sentence. Write the truest sentence that you know.”
"Madame, all stories, if continued far enough, end in death, and he is no true-story teller who would keep that from you."
-Ernest Hemingway

Did I see you smile
just a little
in the corner of your lips
when I walked in the room
my arms tight on my chest
my bag limp and awkward
but did I see you smile
just a little
when I looked up and noticed no one
until your face caught my eye
did I see you smile
just the smallest bit
when I jumped at your presence
and scurried
like a mouse
to the other side of the room
I'm sure that I could see
your lips twitch
at my sight
But if only
I'd sat a little closer
you couldn't hide it so well
under those shady
intelligent eyes
did I see you smile
when I walked in the room
skinny with nerves
and wrecked with discipline
but I'm sure that you smiled
when I smiled
just a little
too
