Present Tense
I keep having the same dream
wake up, go to school
wake up, go to school
wake up, go to school
Sleep
she says,
it will be best for you
but my bed feels the same.
blankets wrap around my neck
like a constant routine,
my pillow continuously indented
with the mold of my head,
a mattress secures me--tolerates me
yet I abandon it always
the way the sun and moon
insist on abandoning me,
and I have never ventured
into a different cycle
I keep having the same dream
just a second
minute
hour
day
week
month
year
decade
Work
they say,
it will be best for you
optimal
but how can I work?
when every
second
minute
hour
day
week
month
year
decade
is a witness to my
circular mishaps,
systematic relapse--
infatuation with revolutions
it is a distraction
to think that
we have more time than what our
bodies have created
numbers are infinite.
but the ones on our calendars are not
we are limited.
so maybe a sun
and a moon
will continue to abandon us
and maybe our mattresses will
continue to lay there
to collect dust and
rot
rot
rot.
a product of our evolution
but we will not.
why?
why?
why?
why doesn’t it bother you?
we keep functioning and functioning and functioning until we just
stop
no comfort, no oscillation
I am
dreaming
