Where im from
I am from unfinished floors and molded walls
From African artwork and homemade pottery
I am from a house of hate but also of love
And raggedy carpet with mud stained floors
I am from a pecan tree sitting in the yard
Whose arms have grown large from age
I am from a house in the trees and birds in the sky
From fender and reed
And from being too technical
From being too tall
I am from the world of boxing
I am from “the Boston strong boy” and ancient merchants
From pizza and shrimp
From boxing in the ring
From living a prosperous life
To a turtle in the river
I am from those moments in history that nobody
Pays attention to.
