"There are three rules to writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are." W. Somerset Maugham

As I grew up,
I kept a list.
Don't become a math teacher,
Don't do drugs,
Don't hurt those around you,
And above all,
Don't fall in love.
Love is pain.
I know exactly where love will lead.
Sorrow,
Torment,
Abuse.
Sure, love looks awe-inspiring,
From a distance,
But up close,
It's a monster.
So how do I say this?
It's simple.
It's not simple.
How do I say this?
You make my words stumble.
My heart races faster when you're near.
It's because of you,
That my thoughts become chaos.
You're the cause of this most,
Discomforting beautiful experience.
You make me bold.
You make me brave.
Though I'm scared of this feeling.
I want to hide.
I want to run into your arms.
I won't.
I might.
I'm standing at this precipice.
Below me is that terrifying monster,
Its jaws promise heartbreak.
Above me is the sky,
Filled with what you say could be,
Your promise that I could fly.
What if I fall?
Oh.. what if I flew?
For you I may take that leap.
Even if it's the worst thing I've ever done.
