The Veil
Media masks reality behind an eerie veil;
The nation speaks of hopeful dreams about the world and peace,
We smile.
Society blinds us like the sun; we learn to look away
And smile.
While,
Disease burns through scorching hot deserts of the Middle East,
We smile.
Tremors demolish homes and hopes of many in Japan,
We smile.
Typhoon rips off tin roofs and fells trees in the Philippines,
We smile.
Missile blows Malaysian aircraft straight out of the sky,
We smile.
Starvation hangs over Ethiopia like a deadly cloud,
We smile.
Gunshots rooted from revolts blaze through Egyptian streets,
We smile.
Bombs rain down on Syria like hail from raging skies,
We smile.
But when the winds blow turmoil west across the violent sea,
We stare, shocked, appalled, that the world is not at peace.
