Just because I’m adopted
Doesn’t mean I’m helpless
Doesn’t mean everything is going to be alright
And doesn’t mean I resent my past
Just because I’m adopted
Doesn’t mean I let the past define who I am
Doesn’t mean I want to be back where I began
Doesn’t mean I’m different from that non adopted girl
Just because I’m adopted
Doesn’t mean I’m letting go of the past
Doesn’t mean I don’t care about what you say
Doesn’t mean I’m not intelligent
Just because I’m adopted
I am thankful for a loving family
I am thankful for strong parents
I am thankful for parents who don’t let others define them
Just because I am adopted
I am thankful for you guys
I am thankful for your supports
I am thankful for lending me some of your strengths and knowledge
Just because I am adopted

*Many people think that I am going to be very different from my childhood child. The truth is there are times when I feel closed in. Sometimes I feel like I can take care of myself and just have my own attitude. Sometimes I take it out myself and just ignore the knowledge the my adopted parent gave me to keep. But I will always be thankful no matter what happens.. maybe not then but after the little episode I know that I am thankful.*
