This is what happens at midnight
I asked you what you thought of the sky
and you just shrugged and told me to count the stars
and that's what I did.
I told you that the sunshine on your face made you look like a miracle
and you just smirked and ran your finger up and down my arm telling me to fall asleep
and that's what I did.
Without a sound I laced my fingers with yours and ran my thumb over your protruding veins
and you just shivered under my touch and whispered "I adore you" in my ear
and I believed you.
I believed in you.
But you took my heart and burned it with the fire in your touch.
and you reached into my soul and played with it even though you knew that it was fragile.
you knew that I trusted you and you abused my thoughts.
and even though I fell in love with the way you said my name, I couldn't forget the stars I counted for you and how much you didn't care.
