not a lot of memories, just sunburns
and swearing
and stories about a myriad of illegal activity
while i’m writing songs and you’re just talking.
it helps in a way.
it helps if i’m not thinking
about my neck hurting and how i hadn’t
eaten at all that day.
in a way
it can make me blind.
(in a way)
i don’t really mind growing pains
because that’s all they are, and
all the feelings that recede like an ocean
of letters that don’t add up or make sense--
doesn’t have to make sense to like the way it looks.
