Summer Rain
I look from behind the glass,
  It’s raining.
Thunder grumbling of in the distance.
  Water runs down the window,
  Like tiny beads.
  Tracing them with my finger,
  I get lost.
Thinking back to hot, hazy days
  With the sun shining down,
  Giving everyone a sun-kissed glow.
Cool nights with fires that crack and pop
Bringing everyone a little bit closer
As the star speckled sky becomes a little bit darker.
The thought of bare feet and dewy grass,
  And who could forget
Running off the dock making a splash.
  I get lost,
In the beauty of summer days,
  And summer nights.
  My finger hits the windowsill,
A faint smile lies on my face.
For a moment I’m genuinely at ease,
  Until the thunder grumbles again,
  Louder this time,
  Closer.
  Pulling my mind back,
To the tiny beads that streak the glass,
  Trapping me in.
