Tortilla from the Past
Rain pours down,
Like stars from the heavens.
Beyond this moment,
People wander unknowingly.
A boy stands alone on a patch of grass,
Dreaming up sorrowful fantasies.
A tortilla from the past
Circles his head,
Soaring like a frisbee
With no clear path.
Free of the worry
And the pain get to come,
As the boy drowns
in the water of his imagination.
A single balloon
Tied to his wrist,
It's other half stolen by the wind.
He laughs forever,
To fight the tears.
I watch this boy from a hidden branch,
Holding his balloon.
My balloon.

This is my favorite poem because it means a lot to me. It was really easy for me to write because it represents my relationship with my friend and reminds me of a great conversation we had. I’ve always admired the way that he can always bounce back from things and seems to always know the solution to any problem, no matter how impossible it may seem. This boy is like a younger brother to me and the last line in the poem represents how protective I feel about him.
