morning in the gay-hating suburbs

the garage door across the street is rickety
as it raises, making noises like a chaotic
shopping cart on a dirt road.
the neighbors are going to work
my mother is asleep
and as soon as i get on the bus,
scalding coffee will run down my tired throat
and the day will begin.
