They think they know who I am,
and exactly what I'll be.
They see the side I only expose,
instead of seeing the "real me".

But everything I hide away,
is hidden behind a mask.
Every feeling, thought, and smile
has been buried with my past.

So I put on my fake face,
and steady my broken voice.
I transform myself into a monster
and I do it without a choice.

My smile has no feeling
and my eyes are only hollow.
My sunshine has been chased away,
and the darkness is all I follow.

But one of these days I'll break free,
and they won't now me anymore!
They'll finally see the honest smile
that they haven't seen before.

And then I will leave them all behind
as I find myself that day.
I will be myself again,
when the mask finally goes away.

The author's comments:
Finding out who you really are is a big part of growing up. This poem was written to describe how you can be a totally different person than the one you really show.

this is really god. i write things like this.everyone goes through this sooner or later.a lot go through it later.but the only thing thats breaking my mask is my boyfriend and its my senior year. so it's time to step up and shine
