Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
Do you know who you really are? Some people do but most people do not. Chris McCandless fell into the more common of the two groups and did not know who he really was. After he graduated from college top of his class. Donated his $25,000 life savings to OXFAM , got in his car and just drove till it broke down. then after that he hitchhiked and rode the trains until he ended up on his last adventure in the Alaskan wilderness. abandoning his family and friends. In order to explore the U.S and himself.
Into the wild The story is about Chris and his adventures around Krakauer never tells the story from Chris’s view because the story was pieced together from journal entries and stories about Chris from the people he met and stayed with and ended up befriending on his travels.
The main theme of the story is Man vs Self, and finding happiness The story also allows the reader to reflect on themselves who am I?. However one thing that I did not enjoy was how the story was presented. It can get very confusing at times because it tends to jumps around a lot to events do not always relate to each other in an obvious way.
This book inspired me to go out and try and figure that out. To question who I am and what I want to do with my life. In my own way and to not just go with what people around me think is the best path for me. Because in the end I am the only one who can ever really know what is best for me.
