Mistake
Before you make what I think is a terrible mistake, let me say a few things. I know you better than your best friend. I can tell what you’re feeling by just a glance at your face. I know your gifts and faults, and I love them equally, because they make you who you are. I’ll put up with your bad habits and crazy pet peeves. I don’t care that you hate sweet tea, even though I like to give you a hard time about it. You make things a little strange sometimes, often awkward, and I love it. Your parents like me, and so does your brother. If that doesn’t say something, then I don’t know what does. I want you to know that I will always catch you, no matter what kind of gunk you’re covered in. I will always do my best to protect you from harm, whether it be bodily or emotional. I will always listen, and when you won’t talk, I’ll do the talking for you. You mess with my head, you confuse me, you confound me. You drive me crazy and make me want to tear my hair out. But you also give me butterflies, you fill me with joy, you make me laugh until my sides hurt. So, before you make what I think is a terrible mistake, I have one more thing to tell you. I think, rather I know, that I love you. May you never forget that.
