I stared him down. I was angry, and hurt. He had done enough damage to my emotions. His smile was weak and apologetic. I wouldn’t hear another word of it. Alone in the library I went back to my laptop to work on my essay for English. I was sick of my teacher comparing me to Sylvia Plath, but it was the only mentor essay I could think to compare to, so I sat and killed my creativity and dignity by allowing my teacher to force me to admit I was similar to a depressed writer who stuck her head in an oven. I actually should be in that class, but I walked out because I was fed up. I heard the chair next to me move away from the table and creak as he sat down next to me.
“Yes?” I looked away briefly out of my peripheral vision.
“Hey, uhm, can I talk to you?” he mumbled.
“Yeah make it fast; I’m sure security will be looking for me soon.” I answered as I continued to type swiftly.
“They’ll probably look for me too.” He said quietly. I then realized he was in the hall as I had screamed at my English teacher and walked out of the computer lab. He must have been worried because that meant he left his English class as well, his teacher was director of the musical, I hoped he wouldn’t be kicked out.
“Okay, so what do you have to say this time?” I absentmindedly brushed hair out of my face and winced at I hit the welt on the side of my head.
“I wanted to apologize, again.” He said, a bit confidently. But then I turned back to my computer ignoring him again.
“I don’t want to hear it. You let me sit on the ground not remembering who I was, you didn’t bother to see if I was okay. What kind of friend does that?”
“A terrible one.” He mumbled, looking down again. I ignored his “sorrow” and continued to write my essay.
“You’re a stupid jerk.” I stated clearly
“Please listen to me,” he started again, stumbling over his words. “I know you probably think I’m a jerk and that you probably want nothing to do with me, but please give me a chance. I still want to be with you, I just didn’t know if you wanted me around or not.”
I shrugged him off again, “Whatever, Shane. I’m almost done with this essay. Just shut up and leave so I-” He grabbed my face and kissed me. That jerk had the nerve to kiss me and then I pulled away and glared at him. Then I realized I was blushing, and smiling. I had enjoyed it.
“Fine Shane, I’ll date you” I hugged him tightly and he hugged back, smiling.
