Home is the place along the lake,

with marshes so green, and swamps so muddy

the morning sun will pour in flooding the marsh with color,

the birds cawing at the sky telling you to wake

I watch my neighbors come to life resuming their daily routine

Mister Jarrod starting up his boat asking if me and Callie want to help

Callie, running up and calling out "Yes sir", her ever so keen

We would load up the boat and he would tell us to join

When we would get back Miss Jarrod would ask if we wanted to eat

she always knew the answer was yes but it was a formality she never changed

wolfing down her grilled cheese sandwiches without a second thought

but when we left their house I couldn't help notice something strange

Walking back to the house I could smell up the storm cooking

flavors of high tides, and cloudy skies bringing out the petrichor

people often thought that you couldn't sense storms but the trick is to know where your looking

When me and Callie got home we called out for mama

Mama had felt awfully sad when papa left us

her cries brought in the rain

and now i knew fuss

i knew why the Jarrord's acted strange- they knew that mama left too

i aunwtde omeyn ryors

They started as four and ended as two

crops in the marsh struggle through floods but they learn to grow and survive the storms

People leave so often but what's incredible is the resilience to stay together
