The Locket
I wear the locket around my neck,
leaving a shadow on my heart.
Gold and engraved, soft and sweet like honey
but it burns my skin with sadness.
And when we watch the sunset together from across the world
we share the baked light and the warmth on the horizon.
It holds a picture of you from last year,
smiling and full of innocence,
oblivious of what was to come.
