The feet still strain
Drumming a beat for
Rattling breath
Don't drop the baton,
Key to the finish line
The mission:
To get home.
Muscles suck breath from lungs
A contest for oxygen
In which both seem to lose
Wind screams discouraging words
Ignore it, fight it, escape it
Just get home.
Thighs burning, shoulders straining
Random cheering and screaming your name
Pressure is on
Don't drop it
